Black dogs will not have any yellow or  fawn on them at all.  They will not have even one brindle stripe.  They should have a black nose and their eyes are normally brown but can come with the recessive blue eyes.  Merle marked dogs will be discussed below.  Black is the eumelanin fur.
Blue dogs also will not have any other color only blue and/or white. They can range in shades of grey from dark slate to muted blue. They should have a blue nose and their eyes can be grey, brown or recessive blue. Merle marked dogs will be discussed below.  Blue is the dilute of black eumelanin fur.
Chocolate (brown) dogs also will not have any other color only chocolate and/or white. They should have a deep chocolate nose and their eyes can be green, gold, brown or recessive blue. Merle marked dogs will be discussed below.  Chocolate is the recessive to black eumelanin fur.
Lilac ( dilute brown) dogs also will not have any other color only lilac and/or white. They can range in darkness but all colors will have a purple hue to the coat.  They should have a purple (blue over choc.) nose and their eyes can be green, gold, grey, brown or recessive blue.   Lilac is both chocolate and blue.
Black with merle dogs will be just like black dogs only with some fur dilluted to blue and some in black.  They should have a black nose and their eyes can come with brown, the recessive blue or marbled blue eyes.  Merle is a dominant trait that gives the coat appearance similar to patchwork.
Blue with merle dogs will be just like blue dogs only with some fur dilluted to a lighter silver or blue/grey  and some in darker grey.  They should have a blue nose and their eyes can come with brown, grey, recessive blue or marbled blue.  Merle is the same in blue as it dilutes the hairs further.
Chocolate with merle dogs will be just like blue dogs only with some fur dilluted to a tan/cream color.  They should have a chocolate nose and their eyes can come with brown, green, gold, recessive blue or marbled blue.  Merle is the same in chocolate as it lightens the hairs further.
Lilac with merle dogs will be just like lilac dogs only with some fur dilluted to a lighter blue cream color.  They should have a lilac nose and their eyes can come with brown, green, gold, recessive blue or marbled blue.  Merle is the same in lilac as it lightens the hairs further.
Black/tan or Tri colored dogs are not black dogs nor do they carry the gene to produce black. They are essentially a fawn/sable colored dog with a black blanket pattern on a large portion of their body.  Normal pattern shows tan on cheeks, eyebrows, under ear flap, chest, legs and under their tail.
Black/tan or Tri with Merle is the same as a black/tan or tri except with some fur dilluted to blue and some in black.  They should have a black nose and their eyes can come with brown, the recessive blue or marbled blue eyes.  Merle only effects the eumelanin fur not the phaeomelanin (fawn/tan).
Brindle dogs have eumelanin (black) and phaeomelanin (fawn) fur in stripes across the body. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (black). You can have more eumelanin or more phaeomelanin showing. This is were we get the terms black or  reverse brindle.
Fawn dogs have  phaeomelanin (tan/fawn) fur all over body with small amounts of eumelanin (black) shading that can occur as masking or down the back and tail. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (black).

Fawn dogs have  phaeomelanin fur all over body with small amounts of eumelanin shading that can occur as masking or down the back and tail. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin. Since merle only effects the eumelanin you will only see merle shading where eumelanin is present.
Blue/tan or Tri colored dogs are not blue (solid eumelanin) dogs nor do they carry the gene to produce blue (solid eumelanin). They are the same patterns as a black/tan in pattern except the black (all black) is diluted to grey.  They will have same eye and nose color as blue dogs.
Chocolate/tan or Tri colored dogs are not chocolate (solid eumelanin) dogs nor do they carry the gene to produce choc. (solid eumelanin). They are the same patterns as a black/tan in pattern except the black (all black) is shown as chocolate.  They will have same eye and nose color as choc. dogs.
Lilac/tan or Tri colored dogs are not lilac (solid eumelanin) dogs nor do they carry the gene to produce lilac (solid eumelanin). They are the same patterns as a black/tan in pattern except the black (all black) is shown as lilac.  They will have same eye and nose color as lilac dogs.
Blue/tan or Tri with Merle is the same as a blue/tan or tri except with some fur dilluted to a lighter silver or blue/grey  and some in darker grey They should have the same color eyes and nose as a blue (solid eumelanin) dog.  Merle only effects the eumelanin fur not the phaeomelanin (fawn/tan).
Chocolate/tan or Tri with Merle is the same as a chocolate/tan or tri except with some fur dilluted to a tan/cream color.  They should have the same color eyes and nose as a chocolate (solid eumelanin) dog.  Merle only effects the eumelanin fur not the phaeomelanin (fawn/tan).
Lilac/tan or Tri with Merle is the same as a chocolate/tan or tri except with some fur dilluted to a lighter blue cream color.  They should have the same color eyes and nose as a lilac (solid eumelanin) dog.  Merle only effects the eumelanin fur not the phaeomelanin (fawn/tan).
Brindle dogs have eumelanin (blue) and phaeomelanin (fawn) fur in stripes across the body. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (blue). You can have more eumelanin or more phaeomelanin showing. This is were we get the terms black or  reverse brindle.
Brindle dogs have eumelanin (chocolate) and phaeomelanin (fawn) fur in stripes across the body. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (chocolate). You can have more eumelanin or more phaeomelanin showing. This is were we get the terms chocolate or  reverse brindle.
Brindle dogs have eumelanin (lilac) and phaeomelanin (fawn) fur in stripes across the body. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (lilac). You can have more eumelanin or more phaeomelanin showing. This is were we get the terms black or  reverse brindle.
Fawn dogs have  phaeomelanin (tan/fawn) fur all over body with small amounts of eumelanin (blue) shading that can occur as masking or down the back and tail. The shading often times looks like a light hue of silver.  They will have the same eye and nose traits as the blue dogs.
Fawn dogs have  phaeomelanin (tan/fawn) fur all over body with small amounts of eumelanin (chocolate) shading that can occur as masking or down the back and tail.   They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (chocolate).
Fawn dogs have  phaeomelanin (tan/fawn) fur all over body with small amounts of eumelanin (lilac) shading that can occur as masking or down the back and tail.   They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin (lilac).

Brindle dogs have eumelanin (black) and phaeomelanin (fawn) fur in stripes across the body. They will have the same eye and nose traits as the color of their eumelanin.  Since merle only effects the eumelanin you will only see merle shading where eumelanin is present.
Clear red or cream dogs only have phaeomelanin showing.  This trait hides all traces of eumelanin even from the whiskers.  Most research states that cream colored dogs are not fawn and cannot carry double recessive fawn.  It is unknown why at this time.  Clear reds and creams will hide merle.
Therefore you should avoid crossing it.
White dogs are actually not white.  They are the color that the white is covering up.  The white is only a marking and not a true color itself.  White can also hide merle so you should not breed excessive white in merle dogs nor cross a white dog that is down from merle as it may be a hiden merle.

"Albino"
True Albino
True Mosaic
Seal Merle
"Albino" dogs only have phaeomelanin showing.  This trait hides all traces of eumelanin even from the whiskers.  This trait also reduces the color of the dogs eyes to blue, nose to light dudley, and phaeomelanin to a light barely visible cream color. This is rarely seen but there are a few dogs out there with this trait.
True Albino's suffer from a lack of any melanin showing.  They will also have a lack of color to their nose (solid pink) and red or blue eyes.  This condition is extremely rare and with many species these animals have genetically linked health problems.  A true albino should not be bred.
True Mosaic AKA Somatic Mutation dogs will have patches of clear red phaeomelanin and patches of black eumelanin.  They are clear in definition like a calico cat.  The laborador retriever is the breed most often seen with this occurance but their have been 2 cases of know pure english bulldogs having this coloration.
Seal colored dogs are not yet genetically classified.  Right now they are in the solid black eumelanin yet they are very similar to a dark chocolate with a black nose.  I will share a photo of a dog that is merle and seal so you can see the difference in the dilution of the body color from the merle.
